Hard clear resists light marring, but it does nothing to stop hard-water minerals etching into it, and once a black Mercedes is etched or swirled it takes real work to correct. A coating on top keeps sprinkler spots, love bug residue and tree sap from bonding, and turns a weekly wash into a rinse and a dry. New cars usually get a light paint enhancement polish first to take off delivery marks. The chrome and gloss black grilles, the lit star on newer models and the large wheel faces on AMG cars are coated as well, because Mercedes brake dust is heavy and bakes on in summer. Magno matte cars get a matte-specific coating that keeps the satin finish even.
