Paint and exterior
A short, compact body whose roof folds into the trunk. Silver, black and bright colors are common, and the trunk lid seals and roof edges are where dirt and pollen hide.
Interior
Two seats in leather or MB-Tex, with neck-level heating vents on later cars. The small cabin dries out in the sun, and the shelf behind the seats collects leaves and dust.
Living in Houston
An older SLK that lived outside in Rosenberg or Richmond usually has dull paint, yellow headlights and a dry interior; a garaged one mostly needs regular care.
- Hard clear coat: swirls take more cutting to remove, so correction is slower, but a corrected finish holds up well afterwards.
- Older plastic headlights yellow in the sun: headlight restoration is an add-on worth asking about.
- Removable roof panels or soft top: drains and seals are cleaned, and soft tops and vinyl windows get their own cleaner.
