Paint and interior on the E-Class

Paint and exterior

Dark blues, greys and black dominate. The long hood and trunk lid hold water spots, and the chrome strips along the side windows and lower doors spot and dull quickly from hard water.

Interior

MB-Tex or leather, often Macchiato Beige or Saddle Brown, with open-pore wood. Recent cars have wide dual screens, and the newest can add a passenger screen and light strips that should only be dusted.

Living in Houston

An E-Class wagon back from Galveston has salt film on the lower doors and sand in the carpet; one parked in a downtown garage mostly needs brake dust and cabin dust handled.

• Hard clear coat: swirls take more cutting to remove, so correction is slower, but a corrected finish holds up well afterwards.
• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Lots of chrome: Houston hard water etches it, so it is dried fully, polished where needed and sealed.
• Light-colored seats are popular: denim dye transfer and sunscreen stains are cleaned early, before they set in the heat.
• Large touchscreens: cleaned with a screen-safe, ammonia-free product and a dedicated cloth.
