Paint and exterior
Round fenders and a domed roof mean almost every panel is curved, which makes polishing slow but very rewarding. Yellow, red and blue are common. Convertibles have fabric tops that fade and need a top-specific cleaner.
Interior
The New Beetle has a very deep dashboard that reaches far under the windshield, so the inside of the glass is hard to reach. The bud vase, the cloth and the rubbery trim all show age.
Living in Houston
Beetles that live outside fade on the hood and roof first, and convertible tops collect pollen and grow mildew in the seams if they are not cleaned.
- Fabric convertible top: cleaned with a top-specific cleaner and protected, with no pressure washer on the seams.
- Older plastic headlights yellow in the sun: headlight restoration is an add-on worth asking about.
- Hard clear coat: swirls take more cutting to remove, so correction is slower, but a corrected finish holds up well afterwards.

Lower, longer and flatter, with Turbo and Dune versions and a convertible. Body-colored dash panels are common and scratch easily.
