Paint and exterior

A long, low liftback with frameless door windows and a wide grille whose bright bars run into the headlights. The long hood and hatch show swirls on dark colors and on Kings Red.

Interior

Leather or Nappa, a wide dash with a digital cockpit, and a big cargo area under the hatch. The frameless window seals collect dust and get wiped down each visit.

Living in Houston

Arteons are commuter cars for Energy Corridor and Galleria offices. Hot parking lots dry the leather, and the frameless glass edges spot from sprinklers and need drying by hand.

• Hard clear coat: swirls take more cutting to remove, so correction is slower, but a corrected finish holds up well afterwards.
• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Nappa or fine-grain leather: cleaned with a pH-balanced leather cleaner and a soft brush, then a non-greasy conditioner.
• Lots of chrome: Houston hard water etches it, so it is dried fully, polished where needed and sealed.
