Paint and exterior
Hard-edged bodywork with flat surfaces that show swirls. Older cars often have faded clear on the roof and trunk, and the wagon and coupe have big rear glass areas that collect water spots.
Interior
Leather with contrast stitching on most cars, plus wood or carbon trim. The third-generation CUE screen is known to develop a cracked, bubbled look that detailing cannot fix, so it is only cleaned gently.
Living in Houston
A CTS that lived outside in Rosenberg or Richmond for ten summers will have a dry, faded dash and dull paint; a full detail and a one-step polish make a large difference.
- Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
- Older plastic headlights yellow in the sun: headlight restoration is an add-on worth asking about.

CTS generations: what to know
2014 to 2019 · third generation
Larger and more upscale, with CUE and better leather. The touch-sensitive controls show fingerprints and get a barely damp cloth.
