Paint and exterior

A long hood, fastback roofline and wide trunk lid. Dark metallics are popular and show swirls on the hood first, and the window and pillar trim is gloss black on many cars.

Interior

Leather or leatherette, with finer leather on top trims and carbon fiber or wood accents. Refreshed cars have a wide curved screen across the dash that collects fingerprints from the driver's side.

Living in Houston

CT5s commuting downtown on I-10 often sit in uncovered lots, where the steep rear glass bakes the rear deck and seat backs; a matte UV dressing keeps that rear shelf from fading.

• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Piano-black trim: it scratches if you look at it, so it gets plush microfiber only and can be polished and coated.
• Large touchscreens: cleaned with a screen-safe, ammonia-free product and a dedicated cloth.
• Exposed carbon fiber: clear-coated carbon is polished like paint; satin carbon is cleaned and protected, never polished.
