Paint and exterior

The last car is low and long, with Thor's hammer lights and bright grille and window trim. Dark colors show swirls on the long hood and trunk, and Polestar Engineered cars have gold calipers that hold brake dust.

Interior

Leather or Nappa, open-pore wood or metal mesh trim, and a portrait screen. Polestar Engineered cars have gold seatbelts that show dirt and are cleaned gently, without soaking the webbing.

Living in Houston

S60s commuting on I-10 and Highway 59 collect brake dust and road film, and in open lots their dark paint shows sprinkler spots. Older ones fade on the roof and trunk.

• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Lots of chrome: Houston hard water etches it, so it is dried fully, polished where needed and sealed.
• Light-colored seats are popular: denim dye transfer and sunscreen stains are cleaned early, before they set in the heat.
• Hard clear coat: swirls take more cutting to remove, so correction is slower, but a corrected finish holds up well afterwards.
