The C40, renamed EC40 for 2025, is the electric coupe-roofed version of the XC40, and the first Volvo with no leather anywhere inside.

Paint and exterior
A sloping roof with a fixed glass panel, a black roof on most, and flush black trim. The steep rear window collects water spots, and the black plastic around the wheels fades in the sun.
Interior
Leather-free upholstery in recycled textile or synthetic, backlit topographic trim on the dash and doors, and carpet made from recycled materials. Light interiors stain easily, and the textile seats are cleaned with a towel, not sprayed directly.
Living in Houston
C40s charged at home rarely visit a dealer bay, so pollen and hard-water spots build up on the glass roof and the rear glass. Afternoon sun bakes the dark roof.
- Synthetic leather: it does not need conditioner, just a gentle cleaner and a matte protectant so it does not go shiny.
- Large glass roof: Houston water leaves mineral spots on it, so it is cleaned inside and out and suits the glass coating add-on.
- Light-colored seats are popular: denim dye transfer and sunscreen stains are cleaned early, before they set in the heat.
- Electric: there is no engine bay, but the frunk, charge port door and underbody plastics get cleaned, and washing an EV is completely safe.
