Paint and exterior
Most FJs wear a white roof whatever the body color, and the seam where white meets color collects grime. Voodoo Blue, Sun Fusion yellow and black are common, and the black plastic bumpers and flares fade badly.
Interior
Water-resistant fabric seats, rubberized flooring and interior door panels painted to match the body. The rear-hinged access doors have seals and hinges that hold sand, and the small rear windows make the back seat a hot box in summer.
Living in Houston
Many FJs here are weekend beach and lease trucks, so sand works into the rear door hinges and the cargo floor, and the white roof shows pollen and tree sap first.
- Sees dirt roads and lease land: mud is softened and rinsed before any mitt touches the paint, and wheel wells are cleaned out.
- Unpainted textured trim: it fades grey in the sun, so it is cleaned and dressed with a matte UV protectant.
- Older plastic headlights yellow in the sun: headlight restoration is an add-on worth asking about.
- Rubber floors and drain plugs on some trims: easy to rinse, but the seams still need brushing to get the grit out.
