Paint and exterior

A short, sloped body with a clamshell hood that wraps over the tops of the fenders, so the hood edges and the shut lines are easy to miss when washing. White, gray and black are common, and the lower rear bumper takes spray from the rear tires.

Interior

Sport seats in leather or partial leather and a sloping console that, on later gas cars, became a glossy touch panel that marks quickly. The rear seats are tight, so car seats press marks into the leather and kids' shoes scuff the seatbacks.

Living in Houston

Macans park in Energy Corridor office garages and outside at H-E-B under live oaks, where sap and pollen land on the roof. Sap left to bake in August is much harder to remove.

• Hard clear coat: swirls take more cutting to remove, so correction is slower, but a corrected finish holds up well afterwards.
• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Piano-black trim: it scratches if you look at it, so it gets plush microfiber only and can be polished and coated.
• Family hauler: car-seat areas, cupholders and seat rails hold the most crumbs; pet hair is an add-on quoted on the call.
