Paint and exterior
Black, dark grey and deep red Maximas from the 2000s commonly have clear coat failing on the roof and trunk. The last generation has a floating-roof look with blacked-out pillars that are gloss trim, not paint, and they scratch easily.
Interior
Leather on most trims, with quilted seats on upper versions of the final generation. Older leather has dried and cracked on the driver's bolster; newer seats need the quilting brushed out, because that is where dirt and sunscreen collect.
Living in Houston
Plenty of Maximas around Westchase and Sugar Land are second-owner cars that lived outside, so the dash tops are faded, the headlights are yellow and the leather is thirsty.
- Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
- Older plastic headlights yellow in the sun: headlight restoration is an add-on worth asking about.
- Piano-black trim: it scratches if you look at it, so it gets plush microfiber only and can be polished and coated.
