Eminent White Pearl, silver and Caviar are typical, with deep reds and blues on newer cars. The long trunk lid and hood take the sun directly, and the spindle grille on 2013 and newer cars traps bugs in its mesh.

Interior

NuLuxe on base cars, leather on most others and semi-aniline on the Ultra Luxury trim. Open-pore wood and piano-black trim are both common, and both need plush microfiber, not all-purpose spray.

Living in Houston

ES sedans spend the workday in hospital and office parking decks, where mineral-heavy drips from the level above land on the roof and trunk and dry into white spots.

• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Piano-black trim: it scratches if you look at it, so it gets plush microfiber only and can be polished and coated.
• Light-colored seats are popular: denim dye transfer and sunscreen stains are cleaned early, before they set in the heat.
• Semi-aniline or aniline leather: minimal moisture, no all-purpose cleaners, and a test spot before anything else touches it.
