Paint and exterior

A wide black band runs across the nose between the headlights, and the long, unbroken panels behind it look great freshly polished but show marring quickly. PPF on the front and a coating over the whole car are common choices.

Interior

A three-screen dash with a passenger display, touch controls on the wheel and leather or Alcantara seats. The gloss black trim around the screens marks if it is wiped with a dry towel.

Living in Houston

New cars are arriving in Houston garages with factory paint, which is the best time to film and coat it, before the first summer of highway bugs and hard water.

• Often wears PPF or a wrap: film edges get a coating-safe wash, no clay on the film, and the film can be ceramic coated too.
• Piano-black trim: it scratches if you look at it, so it gets plush microfiber only and can be polished and coated.
• Exposed carbon fiber: clear-coated carbon is polished like paint; satin carbon is cleaned and protected, never polished.
• Large touchscreens: cleaned with a screen-safe, ammonia-free product and a dedicated cloth.
