Paint and exterior
On older A4s the roof and trunk lid show Houston sun first: dull clear coat and etched water spots. Newer cars mostly need swirl removal, especially S4s in Navarra Blue or Daytona Gray. The allroad's black arch cladding fades if it is never dressed.
Interior
Leather is standard on most A4s, and the driver's side bolster creases first. The MMI knob, the gear selector surround and the door pulls collect hand oil, and B9 cars from 2020 swap the knob for a touchscreen that shows every fingerprint.
Living in Houston
A4s do a lot of Katy Freeway miles to offices in the Energy Corridor or downtown, and an allroad that goes to Surfside on weekends brings sand home in the cargo area.
- Hard clear coat: swirls take more cutting to remove, so correction is slower, but a corrected finish holds up well afterwards.
- Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
- Unpainted textured trim: it fades grey in the sun, so it is cleaned and dressed with a matte UV protectant.

2017 to 2024 · B9
Crisper body lines, the virtual cockpit and a floating screen. The 2020 update moved to a touchscreen, and the new A5 sedan took the A4's place afterward.
