Flat hood, upright windshield and a lot of exposed hinges and bolts that hold dirt. Unpainted flares fade gray, and the hardtop or soft top needs its own care. Bright reds, blues and yellows show water spots clearly.
Interior
Cloth or leather seats built to tolerate weather, rubberized switches and drain plugs in the floor on newer models. Sand hides under the rear seat and in the seatbelt mechanisms.
Living in Houston
A Wrangler driven on the beach at Crystal Beach or Surfside picks up salt and sand in every crevice; rinsing the frame, hinges and wheel wells soon after keeps rust spots from starting.
- Removable roof panels or soft top: drains and seals are cleaned, and soft tops and vinyl windows get their own cleaner.
- Sees dirt roads and lease land: mud is softened and rinsed before any mitt touches the paint, and wheel wells are cleaned out.
- Unpainted textured trim: it fades grey in the sun, so it is cleaned and dressed with a matte UV protectant.
- Rubber floors and drain plugs on some trims: easy to rinse, but the seams still need brushing to get the grit out.
- Fabric convertible top: cleaned with a top-specific cleaner and protected, with no pressure washer on the seams.
