A tall, slab-sided body with a huge grille and a long roof that cannot be reached without a step ladder, which is exactly why it gets missed. On Black Sapphire and Carbon Black cars the flat doors make wash marring obvious.

Interior

Six or seven seats in Merino or Vernasca, often Ivory White or Coffee, and on some cars a three-panel glass roof that lights up at night. Third-row seat tracks and the cargo floor collect the most debris.

Living in Houston

Three rows of kids, a dog in the back and long summer afternoons in a hot pickup line make an X7 cabin work hard. Spring pollen packs into the cowl and around the roof rails.

• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Light-colored seats are popular: denim dye transfer and sunscreen stains are cleaned early, before they set in the heat.
• Large glass roof: Houston water leaves mineral spots on it, so it is cleaned inside and out and suits the glass coating add-on.
• Third row and cargo area: both are included, which is why three-row vehicles sit in the larger size class.
• Family hauler: car-seat areas, cupholders and seat rails hold the most crumbs; pet hair is an add-on quoted on the call.
• Large wheels and tall tires: wheel faces, barrels and wells take real time on this one, and it shows when they are done right.
