BMW i5 detailing in Houston

What we watch for

Paint and interior on the i5

Paint and exterior

The same long, upright sedan as the G60, with an optional lit grille outline and aero wheels whose flat covers hold brake dust in their edges. Dark colors and two-tone wheels are common.

Interior

Synthetic upholstery as standard with leather optional, a curved display and a crystal-look interaction bar across the dash. That bar smudges with every fingerprint and gets a dry microfiber only.

Living in Houston

As a company car on the Energy Corridor commute it spends most of the day in a garage, so the work is mainly brake dust, cabin dust and keeping dark paint swirl-free.

• Electric: there is no engine bay, but the frunk, charge port door and underbody plastics get cleaned, and washing an EV is completely safe.
• Hard clear coat: swirls take more cutting to remove, so correction is slower, but a corrected finish holds up well afterwards.
• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Synthetic leather: it does not need conditioner, just a gentle cleaner and a matte protectant so it does not go shiny.
• Large touchscreens: cleaned with a screen-safe, ammonia-free product and a dedicated cloth.
