Paint and exterior

The long rear glass hatch is the GT's defining panel, and the frame around it holds dust and water. The nose sits a little higher than on the sports models but still takes most of the bug strikes.

Interior

The cabin is plusher than other McLarens, with softer leather, and the luggage bay over the engine is trimmed in carpet or an optional tough fabric that holds lint and hair.

Living in Houston

A GT is the McLaren that does road trips to Austin or San Antonio, so it comes back with highway bugs on the nose, dust in the luggage bay and fingerprints all over the hatch glass.

• Often wears PPF or a wrap: film edges get a coating-safe wash, no clay on the film, and the film can be ceramic coated too.
• Nappa or fine-grain leather: cleaned with a pH-balanced leather cleaner and a soft brush, then a non-greasy conditioner.
• Exposed carbon fiber: clear-coated carbon is polished like paint; satin carbon is cleaned and protected, never polished.
• Low front splitter: we work on level ground and keeps equipment clear of the nose.
