Paint and exterior

Soul Red, Machine Gray and Jet Black show swirls across the long hood and big doors. Chrome across the grille and window line spots with hard water if it is left to air dry.

Interior

Cloth or leather on early trucks; leather, Nappa and real wood on later Signature trims. The third row is tight to clean around and collects backpacks, crumbs and the occasional lost sippy cup.

Living in Houston

Used for school pickups and Galveston weekends, a CX-9 collects sand in the third row, car seat crumbs in the second and salt film on the lower doors.

• Third row and cargo area: both are included, which is why three-row vehicles sit in the larger size class.
• Family hauler: car-seat areas, cupholders and seat rails hold the most crumbs; pet hair is an add-on quoted on the call.
• Lots of chrome: Houston hard water etches it, so it is dried fully, polished where needed and sealed.
• Soft clear coat: it marks from a dirty towel or an automatic wash, so every wash is two-bucket with clean mitts, and polishing finishes down with a fine pad.
