Paint and exterior

A large, rounded body with frameless door glass and a big grille. Dark metallics are common, and the roof and rear spoiler are hard to reach, so they are the panels most often skipped and spotted.

Interior

Fine leather in tan, black or red, with wood or carbon trim. The rear seat and cargo area see kids, dogs and luggage, and the frameless door seals collect dust that needs wiping each visit.

Living in Houston

A Levante that does school runs in Bellaire and trips to the coast picks up salt spray along the rockers and sand in the cargo area; the big wheels collect heavy brake dust.

• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
