Paint and exterior

A very long hood and smooth body with a big grille, and on the GranCabrio a fabric top. Dark blues and blacks show swirls badly; older cars often need correction.

Interior

Four seats in fine leather, often red or tan, with piping and stitching that hold dust. The rear seats are small and hard to reach, and older cars may have dried leather.

Living in Houston

A GranTurismo kept in a Sugar Land garage still collects dust and needs regular care. Older cars that sat outside often have faded leather, cloudy lenses and dull paint on the hood.

• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Nappa or fine-grain leather: cleaned with a pH-balanced leather cleaner and a soft brush, then a non-greasy conditioner.
• Fabric convertible top: cleaned with a top-specific cleaner and protected, with no pressure washer on the seams.
• Large wheels and tall tires: wheel faces, barrels and wells take real time on this one, and it shows when they are done right.
