Paint and interior on the QX80

Paint and exterior

Huge hood and roof surfaces, plenty of chrome and large wheels. Dark colors show swirls, and the roof is high enough that it is rarely washed, so pollen and bird droppings sit up there and etch the clear.

Interior

Leather on all trims, semi-aniline on top versions, and wood trim. The second and third rows collect dirt from kids and sports gear, and the wide dash top fades in the sun.

Living in Houston

A QX80 that tows a boat to Lake Conroe or a trailer to Kemah comes back with road tar, salt and lake water spots on the lower panels.

• Third row and cargo area: both are included, which is why three-row vehicles sit in the larger size class.
• Lots of chrome: Houston hard water etches it, so it is dried fully, polished where needed and sealed.
• Large wheels and tall tires: wheel faces, barrels and wells take real time on this one, and it shows when they are done right.
• Tows and hauls: hitch, rear bumper and the lower panels collect road tar and brake dust, so they get iron remover and tar remover.
• Semi-aniline or aniline leather: minimal moisture, no all-purpose cleaners, and a test spot before anything else touches it.
