Paint and exterior

Long doors and a big trunk lid catch reflections, so swirls are obvious on dark paint. The current car has a Flying B mascot that rises from the hood and is handled gently during a wash.

Interior

Rear seats with their own controls, diamond-quilted leather and a lot of wood. The rear console and door pockets collect clutter, and light leathers show dye transfer where passengers slide in and out.

Living in Houston

Flying Spurs here do airport runs to Bush and Hobby and daily office trips, so the wheels need regular attention for brake dust and the dark paint for pollen film.

• Nappa or fine-grain leather: cleaned with a pH-balanced leather cleaner and a soft brush, then a non-greasy conditioner.
• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Lots of chrome: Houston hard water etches it, so it is dried fully, polished where needed and sealed.
• Light-colored seats are popular: denim dye transfer and sunscreen stains are cleaned early, before they set in the heat.
