Paint and interior on the Continental GT

Paint and exterior

A long hood and muscular rear haunches make the GT a large car to correct. Earlier cars have chrome window surrounds and grilles that water spot; later ones often come with a black-finish styling pack.

Interior

Diamond-quilted seats and door panels, a wood or carbon fascia and, on the third generation, the rotating display that hides the screen behind a wood panel. Quilted seams hold dust and need a soft brush.

Living in Houston

A GTC driven top-down to Kemah or Galveston comes back with salt film and sand in the carpets, while GTs commuting on I-10 pick up brake dust and road film quickly.

• Nappa or fine-grain leather: cleaned with a pH-balanced leather cleaner and a soft brush, then a non-greasy conditioner.
• Lots of chrome: Houston hard water etches it, so it is dried fully, polished where needed and sealed.
• Black and dark colors are common: they show swirls, water spots and pollen film first, and benefit most from a coating.
• Fabric convertible top: cleaned with a top-specific cleaner and protected, with no pressure washer on the seams.
• Light-colored seats are popular: denim dye transfer and sunscreen stains are cleaned early, before they set in the heat.
